I SEE US
âOkay.â Jessica waited.
âThe thing Emily and I werenât on the same page about was kids,â Nikki began. âAll along I thought she wanted to have a family and when it came time for me to start trying to get pregnant, she balked.â
âOh no.â
âThe thing is, just because we broke up didnât mean I couldnât still get pregnant. I was thirty-five at the time and I didnât want to wait any longer,â Nikki stated.
Jessicaâs eyebrows climbed up her forehead. âAnd?â
Nikki studied Jessicaâs face then said, âI have a daughter.â
Jessicaâs eyes widened. âYou do? How wonderful!â
âYou just said you want to be with me, but does that change because I have a kid?â Nikki asked carefully. âI shouldâve told you before all of this.â She looked down at their naked bodies. âBut honestly, Jess, I wasnât sure how youâd react and I wanted to be with you even if it was just this one time.â
Jessica smiled at Nikki. âJust yesterday, the all-seeing Celeste saw me with my own family.â
Nikkiâs heart pounded and she knew hope covered her face. âDoes that mean you want to be with me and my daughter?â
Jessica nodded. âIs that too overwhelming for you?â
Nikki laughed then leaned down and kissed Jessica firmly. âI know you like kids, but this is asking more than just being an aunt.â
âWhatâs your daughterâs name? How old is she?â
âSheâs six months old and her name is Edie, short for Edith,â Nikki said.
Jessica tilted her head. âIs she named for Edie Windsor, the LGBTQ pioneer?â
Nikki nodded. âIâll be married someday because she chose to fight for her relationship.â
Jessica smiled. âYou want to get married? Some people donât believe in it anymore.â
âI know. But my mom and dad were happily married and raised me and my sibs together in love. I saw their example and wanted that for me and now for Edie. Do you believe in marriage?â
âI do for me. Does that mean we share the same view?â
Nikki grinned. âIt does. But do we share the same view as far as kids go?â
âHmm,â Jessica furrowed her brow, but her eyes sparkled. âDo you want more children?â
âIâm open.â
âBecause as I told you yesterday, Iâm not having a baby.â
âDo you not want to carry a baby?â
âI actually had tests done before I left London and it would be very difficult for me to get pregnant.â
âBut as I said yesterday, there are other ways to have a family.â
Jessica gave Nikki the most beautiful smile. âIt seems that you see what I see on the important things that matter.â
Nikki returned her smile. âIt does. Are you sure?â
âLet me show you how sure I am,â Jessica said, pushing Nikki onto her back.
